Overview
This course provides continuing education and resources to assist WIC staff in providing high-quality, participant-focused WIC nutrition services. Topics include VENA and participant-centered services, engaging participants in education counseling, WIC food packages and referrals, and establishing goals and follow-up.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the purpose of the VENA initiative.
- Describe what is meant by participant-centered education.
- Explain the 4 stages in the continuum of change.
- Identify examples to tailor a food package based on participant preferences, allergies, or dietary restrictions.
- Describe the difference between small and big goals.
- Identify open-ended questions to use when discussing participant’s goals.
