What Do I Do With My Peanut Butter

Peanut butter...it’s not just for sandwiches! Use the ideas below to find new ways to try out peanut butter!

What nutrients are in peanut butter? Peanut butter is full of nutrients like protein, iron, and folate, and many more!

Where should I store peanut butter? Many brands of peanut butter can be stored at room temperature but be sure to look at the label of the peanut butter jar to see if there are other storage recommendations.

What if oil separates at the top of the jar? Some brands of peanut butter may separate from the oil in the jar. To solve this, carefully open and use a kitchen knife, spoon, or spatula to slowly mix.

Meal & Snack Ideas

  • Add into a bowl of oatmeal.
  • Dip apple slices in peanut butter.
  • Add banana slices to a toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
  • Spread on toast or crackers.
  • Add to a smoothie.
  • Dip celery or carrots in peanut butter.
  • Mix with yogurt.
  • Top a stir fry with peanut butter sauce.

Allergy Prevention

It is recommended to introduce potentially allergenic foods, like peanuts, along with other complimentary foods to babies. This may reduce their risk of becoming allergic to these foods. Talk to your child’s healthcare provider for more information about serving peanut containing foods.

Choking Prevention

Children under the age of 4 are at a higher risk of choking while eating certain foods, like peanut butter. Spreading peanut butter thinly on other foods, like toast and crackers, and only serving creamy, not chunky, can help make it safer.
