WIC Learning Online (WLOL)

Training for all WIC Staff

Welcome to WIC Learning Online (WLOL), a series of free online courses and other learning opportunities designed to train all levels of WIC staff and professionals working with the WIC population.

Before getting started, please check out our list of frequently asked questions. We hope this will help users get the most out of the courses and learning platforms they are hosted on.

WLOL is available on two Learning Management Systems (LMS): the Percipio learning platform, and for specific State agencies, the TRAIN Learning Network

WIC Learning Online (WLOL) Courses

Select courses are approved for 1 continuing education unit (CEU) per course by the Maryland Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Please note the CEU expiration dates listed below.

WLOL courses are custom-made, developed specifically for WIC staff. Courses currently offered are:

  • Communicating with Participants (added 2017)
  • Confronting Your Assumptions (added 2017)
  • Feeding Infants: Nourishing Attitudes and Techniques (updated 2021): CEU expiration for Nurses 1/10/2024
  • Using Active Listening in Workplace Situations (added 2017)
  • Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) (updated 2016): CEU expiration for Nurses 1/10/2024
  • VENA: Connecting the Dots Between Assessment and Intervention (updated 2016): CEU expiration for Nurses 1/10/2024
  • WIC 101 (updated 2016)
  • WIC Baby Behavior (updated 2015): CEU expiration for Nurses 1/10/2024

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) courses are also available to WLOL users. These courses feature topics including understanding personal bias, using gender neutral language, and gaining competencies for enabling inclusive behavior and conversations. These courses are only available on the Percipio learning platform and include:

  • Adopting an Inclusion Mindset at Work
  • Becoming a DEI Ally and Agent for Change
  • Embedding Inclusion into Everyday Experiences
  • Moving from Bias to Inclusion in a DEI Journey
  • Recognizing and Addressing Micro-behaviors in the Workplace

Getting Started on the Percipio Learning Platform and Frequently Asked Questions

Beginning June 1, 2023, WLOL courses will be available on Percipio. Please refer to our list of frequently asked questions below to assist with access to the platform, taking courses, receiving certificates, and viewing your transcript.  

Q: Do I need an account on WIC Works to access WLOL?

A: No, accounts on the WIC Works Resource System are not related to or necessary to access WLOL.

Q: Can I still use Skillport (wiclearning.skillport.com) to take WLOL courses?

A: After May 31, 2023, WLOL courses will no longer be available on Skillport.

Q: Will my current WLOL account work on Percipio?

A: All users must register for a new account on Percipio. The platform will prompt you for the required information to create a new account.

Q: I started a WLOL course on Skillport but was not able to complete it.

A: You will need to register for an account on Percipio, restart the course, and successfully complete it on Percipio to receive a certificate of completion if it was not completed on Skillport.

Q: How can I get my transcript, certificate, and CEUs for courses I completed on Skillport?

A: Transcripts and certificates will be available to active users on Skillport until August 31, 2023. 

Q: My Skillport account is deactivated, can you re-activate it?

A: No. You will need to register for an account on Percipio to take WLOL courses. 

Q: How do I register for an account on Percipio?

A: Visit https://wiclearning.percipio.com, click on Create an Account, and follow the prompts and instructions. If you do not receive an email, please check your Spam/Junk email folder and ensure your organization allows emails from "@percipio.com". For additional information, please visit:

Q: I registered for an account on Percipio but have not received an email confirmation with the necessary information ("code") to complete the registration and log into my account.

A: If you registered for an account but did not receive an email from Percipio, please:

  1. Ensure you entered your email correctly.
  2. Check your Spam/Junk email folder.
  3. Ensure your organization allows/is not blocking emails from "@percipio.com"
  4. Follow the steps outlined in Configuring Your Browser to ensure you have the correct settings.

Depending on your organization's email and firewall settings, emails from Percipio could be blocked or take up to 24 hours to receive.  If you do not enter the code in the required period of time, please click the "Resend Code" link.

If you continue to have a problem, please contact Percipio Technical Support, indicate you've following the above steps, and ask for assistance with completing your Self-Registration.

As a trouble-shooting step or workaround, you may consider trying a different email address for your account.

Q: I've started (or completed) a course but Percipio is not showing progress and/or my certificate.

A: Try logging out of Percipio and clearing your browser cache.  Contact Percipio Technical Support if the problem continues.  

Q: Within Percipio, where can I find my transcript and certificates?

A: At the top, right-hand side of the page, click on your user icon to expand the navigation menu, then click on Activity. To see or download your certificate for a course, click on the ellipsis (three vertical dots) and choose View Certificate.

Q: Can I use the Percipio mobile app?

A: WLOL courses are not available on the Percipio mobile app. Please complete the WLOL courses using a desktop computer after reviewing the configuration requirements outlined in the Percipio User Guide.

Q: How do I retrieve my Login Name? 

A: On the Percipio login page, type in your email address and click on "Forgot login name".  If you have an account, an email will be sent with instructions on how to login to the platform. If you do not receive an email, please check your Spam/Junk email folder and ensure your organization allows emails from "@percipio.com".

Q: How do I reset my password?

A: On the Percipio login page, type in your email address, and click on "Get password help".  Follow the prompts to reset your password.
