Providing fresh, unprepared, locally grown produce to WIC participants
Want to learn more about the WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP)? This site includes information about the program, who the program serves, common locations that accept benefits, and a map of State agencies that participate in the WIC FMNP. This site also links to additional resources such as State agency contacts and a WIC FMNP Fact Sheet.
Explore these resources you can use to educate participants on the benefits of Farmers’ Markets, which include a Farmers’ Market Directory to help participants find the markets closest to where they live, work and shop, and Maryland WIC's Farmers' Market Cookbook, also available in Spanish (found at the bottom of the page). This cookbook provides recipes and guidance on using WIC benefits at the farmers' market, and tips on how to help WIC participants increase their intake of fruits and vegetables with kid's activities, food safety and storage tips and more!
You can also take a look around the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food (UDSA) and Nutrition Service’s (FNS) resource library to find recent policy guidance, technical assistance, and program data. Is your State agency considering adopting a new program model, including moving to an electronic solution? Be sure to check out the WIC FMNP and SFMNP FY 2022 Guidance Package.
