WIC Breastfeeding Check-In Tool

Breastfeeding Food Packages Infancy

A WIC staff resource to help support WIC moms

The WIC Breastfeeding Check-In tool is designed for the WIC Competent Professional Authority (CPA) as a quick reference that contains Breastfeeding Reassurance Tips to help address common concerns among breastfeeding women and a WIC Infant Formula Tailoring Calculator to assist in individually tailoring infant formula issuance amounts based on the reported amount of formula an infant consumes.

The Tailoring Calculator differs from the WIC Infant Formula Calculator found here on WIC Works in that the Tailoring Calculator helps a WIC CPA determine infant formula issuance amounts for a particular infant (i.e., individually tailor), whereas the WIC Infant Formula Calculator helps a WIC agency determine infant formula issuance amounts per infant feeding category (i.e., partially breastfed or fully formula fed) and food package time frame (e.g., 0-3 months, 4-5 months, etc.)  (see a side-by-side comparison of the calculators).

The WIC Breastfeeding Check-In tool also offers supplemental information, such as When to Refer to a Healthcare Provider and Components of a Care Plan to provide additional resources for CPAs.

Learn more About the Tailoring Calculator and the Breastfeeding Reassurance Tips on the WIC Breastfeeding Support site.
