Fast Facts and Fact Sheet
Marijuana use during pregnancy can be harmful to a baby’s health. The chemicals in marijuana (in particular, tetrahydrocannabinol or THC) pass to a baby and can harm your baby’s development.
Although more research is needed to better understand how marijuana may affect a woman and her baby during pregnancy, it is recommended that pregnant women do not use marijuana. This site (and handout) offers information in a Q&A format that addresses the potential health effects of using marijuana during and after pregnancy and while breastfeeding. This site is also available in Spanish.
