Improving How WIC Teaches Nutrition: Using Stages of Change Criteria and Critical Thinking Skills to Teach About Vegetables

2001 WIC Special Project Grant

This project developed and implemented an innovative nutrition education delivery model that changed how caregivers were taught about vegetables in selected Iowa WIC clinics.  The Stages of Change construct from the Transtheoretical Model was used to identify caregivers' readiness to offer their children vegetables.  Using critical thinking concepts, hands-on, interactive nutrition education activities were provided to address each parent's stage of change and their specific barriers to offering vegetables.
