Human Milk Storage Guidelines

Breastfeeding Nutrition Education

The newly updated Human Milk Storage Guidelines reflect recent CDC recommendations on handling and storing expressed human milk, adapted from ABM Clinical Protocol #8: Human Milk Storage Information for Home Use for Full-Term Infants, Revised 2017.

WIC State and local agency staff can refer to these guidelines in their efforts to share information with WIC participants on how to safely and appropriately store human milk.

CDC also provides recommended storage and preparation techniques that nursing mothers and caretakers of breastfed infants and children can use to maintain the safety and quality of expressed breast milk for the health of the baby.
