In September 2019, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) awarded the Council of State Governments (CSG), in partnership with the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition (GSCN), the 2019 WIC Special Project Innovation Grant (WSPI). CSG and FNS worked together to solicit subgrant proposals from state and local WIC agencies that aimed to focus on implementing customer service enhancements to the WIC certification and eligibility determination process.
In 2021, six subgrants were selected to state and local WIC agencies across the country. These subgrant projects tested new and innovative approaches, and formally evaluated them to determine impact and scalability.
