Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

This easy recipe brings together the dynamic duo of snacking, peanut butter and banana, with the dynamic duo of bone health, calcium and vitamin D. If you have a house of peanut butter lovers, this might be the next crowd pleaser for your kids. With a mix of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats, it’s filling and nutritious!

This recipe includes kid friendly steps, so you can encourage your little ones to help! Make sure all helpers wash their hands before helping in the kitchen.

Ingredients

1 banana (large, frozen, see note below)
2 T peanut butter (crunchy or smooth)
1⁄4 c low-fat or non-fat milk (or milk alternative)

Yield amount

2 4 oz smoothies

Preparation time

5 minutes

Instructions

  1. In the pitcher of a blender, add the frozen banana, peanut butter and milk.
  2. Blend on medium-high speed until smooth.
  3. If the mixture is too thick, add 1 Tbsp milk. Pour into cups and enjoy!

Notes:

When bananas are getting too brown to eat, peel them and store them in a resealable freezer bag. They can last up to 6 months and are great for smoothies or baking.

You can use any milk or milk substitute in this recipe.

Customize this smoothie by adding cocoa powder or other fruits or vegetables like apples or spinach.
